Our Brush Clearing Equipment

The equipment we choose for a brush clearing job depends on the vegetation type, terrain, access, and what the land will be used for after clearing. We don't send one machine to every job.

Tracked forestry mulcher: Our primary brush clearing tool for most Ontario conditions. Processes everything from grass and shrubs to 8-inch trees in a single pass. Excellent on slopes, wet terrain, and rocky Muskoka Shield conditions. All material is mulched in place — no debris removal required.

Brush cutter attachment on compact track loader: For lighter brush and undergrowth work in more confined spaces — urban lots, between buildings, along fence lines. More manoeuvrable than the full forestry mulcher but with less processing capacity.

Chainsaw crews: For selective clearing where we need to choose individual stems to remove — invasive species removal in a forest understory, selective thinning, or work near structures where equipment clearance is too tight.

Flail mower: For tall grass, weeds, and very light brush on accessible, flat terrain. Most efficient for large open areas with minimal woody material — like overgrown fields being returned to agricultural use.

Invasive Species Brush Clearing in Ontario

Ontario has a serious invasive species problem, and many of our brush clearing clients are dealing with plants that are actively damaging their property values and the local ecology. We have experience with the province's most problematic invasive shrubs and vines.

Common and European buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica, Frangula alnus): The most widespread invasive shrub in Ontario cottage country and Simcoe County. Forms dense thickets that crowd out native vegetation. Our forestry mulcher processes mature buckthorn efficiently, including the root crown. Regrowth is inevitable — we set realistic expectations about maintenance schedules.

Dog-strangling vine (Cynanchum rossicum): An aggressive perennial vine that climbs trees and shrubs, eventually killing them by shading out foliage. Mechanical removal cuts the above-ground biomass but doesn't kill the root system. Effective management requires follow-up treatment. We'll be honest about what one clearing visit can accomplish.

Phragmites (Phragmites australis subsp. australis): Giant invasive reed that dominates wetland edges and drainage ditches throughout Ontario. Mechanical cutting reduces the stand but doesn't eliminate it — phragmites management typically requires a multi-year programme. We provide initial cutting and work with property owners on long-term management plans.

Hawthorn and Manitoba maple: Native or naturalized species that become invasive in agricultural contexts — colonizing fence rows and field edges. Both respond well to forestry mulching for rapid removal.
